Q: Where can I get the most money for my junk car in Chicago?
I’m looking to get rid of a 1990 Volvo 240 junk car. Where can I get the most money for it in Chicago? It’s still drivable.
Edit: when I say drivable, I mean it’ll make it to the salvage yard…maybe.
A: Your best bet would be to donate it to charity and get a tax write-off.
Q: Indiana resident buy car insurance in Chicago?
I go to college in Indiana and hold an Indiana license. I’m working in Chicago this summer and thinking about buying an affordable used car here since there are way more options in the city. I’ll go back to Indiana in the fall and would like to register the car as an Indiana one. Since I can’t drive the car without an insurance, I wonder if I can buy insurance here in Chicago and still register it as an Indiana car? Thanks a lot.
A: I recommend you this site where you can compare quotes so you can find the best option for you

Q: Where is a good place to get after market parts put on a car in Chicago?
I want to know the name of a good/reasonable priced shop in or near Chicago. I want to have aftermarket parts installed on my Acura TL such as head lights, tail lights, body kits, spoilers, custom interior upgrades and performance accessories.
A: J.C. Whitney ,
summit 1800 230 3030 call this too free number and get free catalog.
Q: I want to rent a car from Chicago to LA. Is there a cheap way to do this without encountering a drop off fee?
All the car rental websites I have looked at have a “drop off” fee of at least $800. Thanks.
A: Try several car rental agencies; some of them have -mostly NE US-Florida- specials to get their cars to specific locations to accommodate seasonal demands.
Q: Is a car necessary for Chicago?
I am planning on going on a 3 or 4 day trip to Chicago with my wife. We will probably be staying in or near downtown Chicago. I want to go to some museums, the aquarium, the zoo, Millenium Park, Chinatown, etc.. All the touristy places. Will getting a rental car be necessary? Or will public transportation or taxis be enough?
A: no public trans wil take you almost anywhere you need to go
Q: What is the cheapest day fo the week to rent a car? …In chicago?
Does the hour I pick up and drop off the car make a difference as long as it’s only one day? Like would it be cheaper to pick the car up at 9am and drop it off by 9am next day, than to pick it up at noon, and drop it off by noon the next day?
Any advice for getting a good price?
A: Try asking this to the U.S.A Questions & Answers, you may get a larger response?
Or go ask at a Airport hiring company for advise or prices?
Q: What do you think of i-Go Car Sharing service in Chicago?
Hi guys! I’ll be moving to Chicago next week (Lincoln Park area). I won’t be having a car but I’ve recently learned about i-Go car sharing service. What do you think of this car sharing service? Thank you!
A: I live in the city and I own a car but only because i commute to the suburbs for work. If it weren’t for that I could take public transit, bike or walk anywhere else I need to go. I would probably sign up for this if i did not have a car just because it is nice to have a car to drive to the grocery store or other various trips you may need to make. It is cheaper in the long run as you don’t need to pay for parking, a city sticker, registration, insurance or car notes, just the monthly and usage fees. I know a few people who have I-Go and they have had no complaints.
Q: What is the cheapest way to ship a car from Chicago, IL to Sacramento, CA?
Thanks
Cut it out with the dumb answers please. I need to ship this car and no I cannot drive it, and please check the dictionary for the meaning of the verb “to ship”.
I’m interested in a recommendation of a good, reputable and cheap company that does this.
A: Auto van. It depends on the value if you ship it open or closed van. If it’s an exotic it should be in a closed va
Go to an exotic car web site and ask the same question. They ship cars across the country all the time. There are big name national services, but they are very expensive. You want a private operator who charges about half.
Q: Anyone know of a air carrier that will fly my car from Honolulu to Chicago?
We only have one vechicle, I would like to have it flown so I dont have the expense of renting a car (either here or there) until mine shows up. I have searched and searched and cant seem to find a carrier that will fly a car via air cargo. I see plenty that will ship one but again I dont want to be without a car and have to rent one. I’d like a site that lets me get an estimate since I need to budget for this. I’m looking into it way in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Oh I wont have enough vacation time to have it flown to CA then drive it to Chicago myself, which is why I need a carrier that will get it all the way to IL.
A: I don’t mean to be rude, but are you out of your mind? Let’s say that your car is a toyota echo, just for argument sake, and that the shipping wieght is around 2,000 lbs. Now, go to the ups or fed ex website and see how much they would charge to ship a package wieghing 2,000 lbs. OVERNIGHT to Chicago? Pretty expensive, now figure in the Hazardous material charge (gas in the fuel tank and such) and it is HUGE. I am not sure about the $25,000 quoted in the other post, but I would not be suprised.
Q: I need a car for two months. What is the cheapest way to get a temporary car in Chicago?
It just needs to be cheap. I don’t need anything extra ordinary just work and back.
A: rent one or buy a “beater”
Q: Is it neccesary to have a car in Chicago?
I will be going there for 3-4 months, but am not used to driving!
Is public transport OK there?
A: I lived there for only 6 months and having a car was more of a burden. The cost of parking garages or meter passes can be pretty steep. You will definitly love not having to put up with traffic when you take a bus or subway. The layout of the city is perfect for public transportation!!!! Unless you live in the subburbs outside of the city…then get a car. Be a little more cautious on the Red Line, nothing bad ever happened to me, it just is a little sketchy in some places. A month metro pass will cost about 60-70 bucks if I remember right, they can be found underground at any subway station, or Jewel Grocery store. The cost of keeping our car in the garage (Which we were on a six month waiting list for!!!!!) Cost $120 a space. We lived in Sandburg Village between Gold Coast and Old Town. I am sure the prices vary place to place. Bu the long way around it here was YES INDEED! the public transportation is OK……much better than in here in L.A!!!!!!!……….sigh….I miss reading The Red Eye on the morning commute to work on the bus.
Q: What is the safest way to ship my car from Chicago to San Francisco?
A: Use a bonded company and if you really want the safest, find one that will use a covered rack for the cars. I’ve shipped my car between Chicago and Phoenix several times without problem.
Q: Looking for a place to sleep in my car in chicago?
Could be a street parking garage anywhere. Only going for 2 nights and dont want to rent a hotel, im low on money.
A: If I were you I’d email them and ask if you can sleep in your car. I personally wouldn’t do it for 2 reasons:
1. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. There are thousands of cars in and out of those garages every day, especially during an event weekend (I’m guessing you’ll be at Lollapalooza this weekend?)
and
2. Security. At night when there aren’t that many people around I would be afraid that someone one would break into my car with me in it. Or if I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and got mugged, raped, abducted or worse.
You might want to call or email Millennium Garages (who owns the Grant Park garages) and ask if they allow you to sleep in your car.
Q: Job interview with enterprise rent a car in chicago?
I have a interview with enterprise rent a car and she stated for me to bring a resume and come dress in a suit. I don’t have a suit but I do have professional clothing. Do you think this will affect my chances in getting the job? I am a woman by the way
A: I guess that you don’t want the job. Beg, borrow, or steal a suit. If you can’t follow that easy direction, you will have trouble working for enterprise. They run a tight ship, and really want highly motivated people. The word NO does not exist in their vocabulary. Even if your place doesn’t have a car left on the lot, you tell the person that you have the car they want. You call every enterprise in 100 mile radius till you find one, then figure out how to get it to your place. Be dressed properly, and be gung ho. You’ll get the job. Good Luck!
Q: How much would shipping cost for a car to Chicago, Illinois to Hawaii?
For a vehicle.
A: Contact Matson and Horizon Lines for an exact quote. You could have googled “shipping car to Hawaii” and come up with this information. Getting a quote directly from the company is free, it does not commit you to using the company.

From the west coast of the U.S. expect to hear a quote of anywhere from $1200-$1500+ depending on how much insurance you decide to carry. From the east coast $2200 or so depending on insurance. I’d venture that you’ll fall somewhere in the middle since that is where you are literally from.
