Are you looking for Used Car illinois? Check out the top Chicago resource today!

Q: I live in Illinois and I need to know how I can get my license plates transfer to another car since the car I?
I live in Illinois and I need to know how I can get my license plates transfer to another car sience the car that I had the plates on had got repo and I will be getting another car finance and will like to use the orginal plated instead of getting new ones.

A: If you have the plates/registration, the dealer where you buy a car should be able to transfer them over. If you do not have the plates and/or registration:

On http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/vehicles/faq.html scroll down to “How do I apply for a replacement license plate(s)/sticker?” and/or “How do I apply for a duplicate registration card?”

Q: is it ok to have my car registered in Maryland while I’m using an Illinois driver’s license?
The only reason why I had to register my car in Maryland was because my Illinois license plates expired (and I relocated to MD). There was no choice but to register it to this state anyway. While my Illinois driver’s license is still valid until 2014. Is it ok to keep this? Or do I have to go to the MVA and get an MD driver’s license and go through all the hassle? After all a driver’s license is only a license to drive as long as its valid. I’ve gotten a speeding ticket before and I just told the cop of my new address, thus I received the notice here and not to my Illinois address. Everything seems fine.

A: The Maryland law requires that you get a Maryland drivers license within 60 days of you establishing permanent residency in Maryland. Not getting one is against the law.

http://www.mva.maryland.gov/Driver-Services/Apply/newtoMD.htm

Q: I would like donate my car in Illinois..Any tips?
My husband and I would like to donate our 97 Hyundai 4 door Accent to a reputable organization that will put it to good use. It runs well and has some cosmetic flaws. I would like to earn a tax deduction with a section 501(c)(3) organization.
Thanks!

A: pick a charity that you want to support. If it’s a recognized charity they will have all the proper paperwork.

Q: Question: Car people/titles (Illinois)?
Is it possible to get a title for a car that has no title in Illinois?

At some point the car’s title was lost and never recovered. The car is in good condition, runs great, but I can’t drive it with no title. I hate to use it as a parts only car. Is there anyway I could get a title? Maybe rebuilt?

Thanks

A: Go to your DMV and apply for a lost title. It cost very little and takes just a couple minutes to fill out the paper workl then your all set!

Bring the VIN number, the current Plate number, the year/make/model

Q: I live in Chicago but I am purchasing a car in Indiana. And I want to know what to do about the license plates
I will register the car in Illinois, but I need to drive it from Indiana. Obviously the seller will remove the current plates, so do I just drive up there with no license plates, or is there some sort of temporary plate I can use for the day? Thanks

A: most dealers sell temporary tags.or drive off tags. if you could get the vin number before you go you could and should insure it as anything could happen on the way home.

Q: What is are the laws regarding minors and car loans?
My younger brother is 17. He wants a car and neither his mom or my dad will co-sign for him. My husband and I told him we would, but my brother’s mom told him that he can’t legally get a loan without her concent. I used to work at a bank and I know that minors cannot open a bank account without an adult, but the adult does not have to be the minor’s parent.

I have been searching the internet for the law in Illinois regarding this issue, and I can’t find anything. Can someone help?

A: Since he is a minor, he cannot enter into any kind of binding contracts until he is 18. There is nothing that states that the adult co-signing a loan for a minor HAS to be a parent or guardian. The only thing is, if he defaults on the loan you will then be responsible for the loan (but since you used to work @ a bank, you should already be aware of what you are getting yourself into if he defaults on the loan).

If you haven’t considered this yet- he’s going to be in the same position when he goes to get insurance & his tags for the car. Can’t due to being a minor.

Good luck.

Q: What is a best first car for a teenager?
I am 15 year old guy and I have my permitand I am going to get
my liscence in about 6 months I want to buy a car that is no more than $10,000
I was thinking about heting a older used jeep wrangler because I live in Illinois and the winters are
always bad and a 4wd whould be nice but not necesary , what other cars are therethat would be good for a 16 year old first time driver

A: It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: Can you buy a car if your drivers license is revoked?
I’d like to buy a car for others to use to drive me places. Since I would be the one making the payments I would like it registered under my name. Is this possible in the state of Illinois?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Can I drive my parents car with the insurance under their name not mine?
Can I drive my parents car with the insurance under their name not mine?
I live in Illinois and I am 16.

    * 3 hours ago
* – 1 week left to answer.

Additional Details
I live in Illinois, I am 16 and I am not on the policy just my parents. I just got my license so can I use their car until I get my own without adding me to the policy?

A: You can but if you get in an accident, the car and you will not be covered by the insurance. You are not insured. Even if it’s the other car’s fault, you would be liable and insurance would not cover any damage to the car, to you, or to the other person’s car or body. Your parents would be finacially responisible to pay for all that.

Q: where do u get a motorcycle side car and do u need a license for it in illinois america? also how much would i?
can u use a standard motorcycle like a buell or a hyosung gt 650?

also what is the point of a vtwin i know that it is a split pipe is there anypoint in that?
i pay for a side car and i need speacial person to put it on?

A: Type in “Motorcycle sidecar” in the search engine. It is not that hard. Having a sidecar on a motorcycle does not require a special license in Illinois.

Q: Can I use my family’s car insurance when I am a resident of another state?
My mom has been helping me out with my car insurance. I am living in Connecticut as a student but am planning on becoming a resident. I am originally from Illinois. Will her coverage for me in IL still apply when I switch residency?
I am going to change to CT plates because I am becoming a resident.

A: Once you become a resident of CT, you’ll need to change your plates, driver’s license AND insurance there–usually within 30 days.

Q: Where can I get Used Chrysler 300C for under $5K?
I can find any used Chrysler 300C that sells for under $5,000. I lived in Illinois.
Is anyone know that car sells that much??????????????????
If anyone knows, please comments!

Thanks!!!!
Any year, any mileage. Or just 300 not 300C.
Oops!!! I forgot to put t on second word – top line – can into can’t. ha!

A: Check out autotrader.com

best place to find a car

there is one listed on there right now for $2,890
but it is probably really far from were you are

Q: Good, low priced car for 16 yr. old.?
Any ideas? I turn 16 next month and have been looking for a used car. Mostly I’ve been looking at small SUVs, as that’s what I’m most comfortable with (I have most of my driving experience on a ‘05 Sierra) along with the fact that I plan on a lot of highway miles, and need room for my drums.
I’m not opposed to a smaller car, but definitely nothing too small (I have difficulty getting into my sister’s ‘95 Escort) Possibly a truck
My absolute favorite so far is the Jeep Wrangler, but my dad doesn’t seem to be too thrilled with that idea, and they are hard to find under $5,000

Any suggestions, maybe a good place to find a car, for those of you familiar with the Iowa/Illinois Mississippi valley?

A: You should check out a Toyota/Scion dealership or check in the paper. They have some great vehicles that used you could probably get around 5 grand and they’re safe and reliable.

Q: Can I transfer plates to a car I do not (yet) own?
I’m in Illinois. I’m trying to fillout a Title Transfer And Registration form but it’s very confusing. I’m in the process of buying a used car, but it will take several weeks for the lender to mail the cleared title. I want to drive the vehicle in the meantime… Can I transfer my old plates even though I’m not yet the titled owner of the new (used) car?
How do people normally get around this? I find it hard to believe that I will have to just park the car for 2-3 weeks or longer until the bank gets around to mailing me the old title.
The DMV doesn’t open until tomorrow morning, I’m hoping to get a quicker answer here… Thanks

A: thats an easy one,NO!IF ITS NOT REGISTERED TO YOU ITS NOT YOURS TO DRIVE YET.

Q: Illinois “I-Pass,” what kind of technology is used to communicate which I-Pass user is passing through toll
There is a device people put in their car…. you drive under the I-Pass on the toll road, and your I-Pass box somehow communicates with the Toll Booths sensors —
what kind of technology is this – in which each device is individually tracked

A: It’s called RFID or radio frequency identification. Typically an RFID tag (In this case the I-Pass unit) holds an id number which is scanned and then looked up in a database which provides more information based on the id number.

Q: Illinois License Plate?
Ok, so I bought a used car from a dealership about 2 months ago, they told me that when they got my plates they would have me come back in and they would put them on. Is this right? My husband said that he always had to go buy new ones. Anyone have experience with this in illinois?
I didn’t trade in a car. I have only bought in oregon where they didn’t have temp plates. so illinois, i have no idea

A: Never heard of a dealership obtaining the plates. This is your responsibility. Once you get the title or copy of the title, you go get the plates.

Q: Does an IL buyer have to pay CA use tax?
If I’m buying a used car from a private party in CA (L.A. county), but have an Illinois driver’s license, do I need to pay the use tax, and if I do, to who?
The information I found was kinda ambigious.
I just moved here a week ago for a limited time.

A: If you’re an IL resident and title and register the vehicle in IL, you do NOT pay the CA use tax. If you title and register the car in CA, you must pay the CA tax.

Q: Lemon Law/Manufacturer Buyback, I bought a used car, then found THAT on the title AFTER!?
I bought a used car (2006 Pontiac GTO) about two months ago and JUST recently found out that the title has a lemon law/manufacturer buyback on it. It was a defect in the paint supposedly. It claims that the defect was remedied, then sold at auction…….

then over the course of the past year it has been retitled, but the lemon law thing still pops up……..

SHOULD the dealer have told me about this in WRITING when I purchased the car, or have they gone against the law???? (I’m from Illinois)…… I’ve been reading here and there that if a car was previously bought back because of a defect/lemon law that it should be presented to you in writing at the time of sale if the car gets resold later. The dealership never told me ANYTHING!

Am I able to do something about this, like take the dealership to court or have them buy it back or something???

A: Depends on the laws in your state.

Remember, when you buy a used vehicle, you buy someone else’s problems.

Q: Front driver and passenger door tints?
So im moving to Florida in two weeks but im keeping my Illinois license plates and still paying Illinois car insurance using my parents address. It is illegal to have the driver and passenger side tinted in Illinois but not in Florida. So if im in Florida can i still get it ticket even though it’s legal in Florida, due to the fact that i have Illinois license plates?

A: NO!

Q: What should I do, what am I entitled to do by Illinois law?
I found a car on craigslist for 900 dollars, I met with the buyer and he agreed to sell the car to me for 500 dollars, he asked for 900 b/c there was a brand new battery which was expensive, we settled on 500 when he removed the battery and replaced it with used one. The man washed the car , vaccumed it, we ran it for 30 minutes before I handed him the money and drove the car home last Thursday evening and parked it. The following day I drove 15 miles to the DMV to get plates for the car, when I went to start the car, it was dead. I had it less than 24 hours and it was now dead!

I contacted the person I bought it from and explained the car died, he suggested from the problem I was having that he would check the fuel pump and filter. The seller, came to get the car and drove it to his repair shop where it has now been for the last two days. I contacted the seller and he said he would agree to change the air filter on the pump and see if that got things going, but that is all he would do regarding the car. The seller further went on to expalin if I needed a fuel pump, he would put it on for free.

I am upset b/c I already have a Chrysler 300M that randomly dies and I just found out is unfixable. I went out and bought this piece of car b/c I live in a rural area with no public transportation to get to work should a job call anytime. I am a single parent of three, unemployed, trying to finsih my bachelors and after trying to walk everywhere with kids in tow, groceries in 90 degree weather, i just needed a piece of car and begged this man not to take advantage of me with my last 500 dollars! The seller explained the car, 1992 oldsmobile delta had only been driven by his kids to commute to college and it ran great and he was as a mechanic does his own repairs. I expected to use the car no more than 4 to 5 weeks atleast b4 something broke down! I would like to have my money back which would be nice, so I can go rent a car or save for a down payment for when I get a job to trade int he other car. I am sure the seller is not going to agree! I am upset b/c I feel he knew something was wrong, as he is a mechanic and had more knowledge than about cars, but he figured oh well, sold it to me then offers to fix the car?! Who does that! Who is wrong or right here

A: you bought the car “as is” he has to do nothing for you

Q: Car insurance. Using car but insurance under my moms name!!!?
HI
my mom gave me her car which is insured only under her name and i took it to California from Illinois. I registered the car in California and switched the title to only my name.
Can I legally drive around using the insurance card with my moms name on it which is also from Illinois?
And what if I leave my moms name on the registartion along with mine? this way its under both our names. The insurance would be valid?

A: In order to be correctly insured, you need to switch to a California insurance policy. If you own and register the vehicle solely in your name you need to insure it in your name. If your mother wants to pay for your insurance you will need to list your “garaging address” as your California address and your “billing address” as your mothers address. Each state has a different grace period before you can have to correct your insurance. If you don’t make the changes you will have multiple coverage issues if you have an accident. Additionally, if you have a roommate you will need to to disclose them on your policy. If there is every a chance that they may drive your car, you should list them on your policy. If they have their own vehicle and will NEVER driver your car you can exclude them. Keep in mind though that if you knowingly exclude them from your policy and they drive your vehicle and have an accident, at fault or not, the coverages on your policy may be reduced (if you have collision coverage your carrier may not honor it) or your claim could be denied. Additionally, if you have anyone else that you know who may “frequently” drive your car, add them to your policy. Find a local agent in your area for the carrier you are interested in having your insurance with and they should go over in detail the miminum coverages required in California and can help you understand your policy and what is required and requested of your as an insured.

Q: Lemon Law/Manufacturer Buyback, I bought a car, then found THAT on the title AFTER!!!!!!?
Lemon Law Buyback??? I bought a used car….. found THAT on the title AFTERwards….?

I have checked ALL my paperwork, read EVERYTHING (literally) and there is NO where in MY paperwork that says anything about it previously having the lemon title…….

A: I am aware of no provision in law that requires this. Is there some problem with the car?

Q: When can my 5 year old stop using the car seat? Does he need to have a booster?
He is 41 lbs and we live in Illinois.

A: He can stop using a booster seat when he passes this 5-step test.. And not a moment sooner.. He needs to be in a booster seat, or a car seat that has a high weight limit(one that uses the harness above 40 lbs. check them owners manual of your seat.. many only go to 40 lbs) until he passes this 5-step test..

The 5-Step Test.
1. Does the child sit all the way back against the auto seat?
2. Do the child’s knees bend comfortably at the edge of the auto seat?
3. Does the belt cross the shoulder between the neck and arm?
4. Is the lap belt as low as possible, touching the thighs?
5. Can the child stay seated like this for the whole trip?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, your child needs a booster seat to make both the shoulder belt and the lap belt fit right for the best crash protection. Your child will be more comfortable, too!

http://www.carseat.org/Boosters/630.htm

Hope that helps!!

Q: I need a car, van, or truck can anyone help?
I live in Danville, Illinois…….I don’t have very good credit, unfortunately. I am disabled, I really need transportation, I have a mentally challenged brother, I am his guardian and I really need to get up to Northern Indiana to visit him. Does anyone know of any places to get financed for a used car, I tried a lot of places already, but need someone who will work with me on payments…Please don’t be mean on your answers, I am depressed enough………Thank-you…..Dianne
Yes I’m serious

A: Try this: www.buyherepayhere.com Or www.autofinancing.net

Good Luck, & God Bless

Q: Is my car a lemon?
I just bought a used dodge magnum about 2 months ago. It is still under warranty and my check engine light came on. I took it to the dealer and had them work on it. They said I had a transmission leak. This was about 2 and a half weeks ago. Just yesterday I had to take it back because the engine light came on again. This time they did a smoke test and thought my gas cap was bad and that was causing it. They also cleaned my fuel injection system. They charged me 200 dollars for labor. Then today the light came back on while I was driving around town. I have to take it back again. Does this sound like my car may be a lemon? what is the lemon law in illinois and does it work when you buy a used car?

A: If it’s still under warranty why did they charge you $200?

Q: When police officers “seize and keep desired cars for personal use,” isn’t that stealing?
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/27/2767.asp

Influential Illinois State Police official gets personal use of a muscle car confiscated from a motorist.

Dodge ChargerIllinois State Police troopers seized a high-performance muscle car and set it aside for the personal use of an influential police official. The Associated Press reported that a suspected drunk driver in a 2006 Dodge Charger was pulled over in January 2007. The troopers used a state seizure law to confiscate the vehicle.

Once the paperwork was complete, the 425-horsepower vehicle — which had an as-new base price of $38,000 — was handed over for the personal use of Ron Cooley, 56, the Executive Director of the Illinois State Police Merit Board. Taxpayers also pick up the fuel tab for gas-guzzling 6.1 liter V-8 as he drives to and from work each day and on various business trips.

A good relationship with the merit board is essential for any state trooper looking to move up into a position of responsibility.

“The mission of the Illinois State Police Merit Board is to remove political influence and provide a fair and equitable merit process for the selection of Illinois State trooper candidates and the promotion and discipline of Illinois State Police officers,” the board website explains.

According to AP, the Charger is just one of two dozen desirable cars — including an Audi and a Cadillac Escalade — grabbed and kept by state troopers. State police officials decline to identify the beneficiaries of the confiscated car policy claiming it could endanger officers if the type of car they drove at taxpayer expense were made public.

A: Car confiscated = property of state
Police employed by state = Car provided by state
I have no problem with the above story we need to support or Law Enforcement people better rather than picking up on petty stories. The car is the property of the state and it up to them how best it is used. We use more than just cars that are confiscated to further capture criminals. Its cheaper for tax payers too, saves cost on under cover props etc. Relax one day you might need me and I might come to your aid in a confiscated car or bike or plane or helicopter.

Q: Do I have to have my own car insurance?
I am 20 and live iwth parents still. They both have car insurance and I will be using there car when I do drive. I don’t drive much. Isn’t there something called permissable use where I can drive it with their insurance and as long as the car is covered its fine? Can someone provide a link. I am in Illinois.

A: Since you live w/ your parents, you need to be added to their policy as an occassional driver.

Q: Rules for a car for driving test?
Anyone know what the rules or standards are to use a car for the driving test to obtain your licenses?

In Illinois.

A: street legal
-break lights
-headlights
-horn
-brakes
-windshields
-blinkers
-seat belts
all must be in working order

any manufactured car would work.

Q: How much car insurance do I need?
I’m a graduate student that has little saved due to paying my way through college and I drive a 1997 Dodge intrepid, of which kelly has a personal value of around 1,500 and a sale by used car dealer at around 3,000. I was curious to have some opinions as to how much car insurance one things I should get? I’m going to school in illinois, but my true home is in indiana so I could claim either state (not that I’ve seen it make much of a difference). From what I have found 100/300/50 is recommended, but I’m more looking as to whether collision or comprehensive is even worth it at this point due to my car’s value?

I (knock on wood) haven’t been in an car accident while driving and I am a safe driver that follows within 5 of the posted speed limits (unless traffic is going 20+over).
If I wasn’t clear I’m looking more at is it worth to take of colision and comprehensive, right now it cost about 200 a year to have the 1,000 deductiable on both, with the worth of the car, is it worth keeping either of them?

A: just get the liability/pay to much to protect that small of an investment

Q: How do I buy a car at 18 with no credit history?
I need a car by the end of the month (long story). I don’t have enough for a down payment and I have no credit history (my mom has terrible credit so she won’t co-sign). I’m not even too sure of how the entire car-buying process works. If I go to a used car dealer and find a car, will they accept me paying just monthly payments with no down payment? I don’t care how much interest they want to make me pay, I will pay whatever, I just need to know that I can get a car without needing loans or a down payment and having no credit history.

I live in Illinois if that matters at all.
Thanks!!
I’ve been at my job for just over 2 years now. How do I get a loan though? Especially with no credit history? How do I get approved?

A: Yikes.

Good luck. The credit crunch has really slowed down the market on “no-credit/bad credit” loans without a downpayment. Most lenders, even 2nd and 3rd-tier, are requiring hefty downpayment on loans to those with no or bad credit.

Your only option is probably going to be a “buy-here, pay-here” lot that will allow you to make payments (they still usually want a downpayment, though) without a credit history. Expect very high interest, marginal quality vehicles, and very strict repayment terms. Miss a payment by a few days, here comes the tow truck. I would use this only as a last resort.

If you have decent income, over $1500 a month, then I would try your local bank or credit union to see if you can build up credit with them. If your check is direct deposited, that’ll boost your chances as they’ll just deduct the payment from it.

Q: My husband has found a man’s class ring from Chicago State U. How do I find this person? Where can I send it?
It’s from 1984. My husband found it in a used car 15- 20 years ago.

A: Contact the Alumni Office at the school. Explain the situation. Hopefully, they can find out whose ring it is. If there are initials in the ring, be sure to tell them. It should be a simple case of looking in a yearbook or checking school records. I know the person who lost the ring will be glad to have it back!

Q: best used car in 10000 US dollars ?
am ready to buy a car which is used for about 2 years. which is the beat choice i am planning to live in CHICAGO and i luv to show off !!!

A: 10K is not going to buy you a car to show much, specially since you’re looking for a car that’s only two years old but with that budget you can get a car like a 07-08 Dodge Caliber 07-08 PT Cruiser or maybe an 08-09 Ford Focus or cars on the category.

Q: Need loan to get a used car??
hey I am from Turkey and just came to chicago 10 days ago for an 18 month internship program. I am planning on buying a used car but I dont have cash right now. to get a loan at a bank they ask at least 2 years of residence which I dont have. I have my intern as my income which will be enough for me to get a car in 12 months… So where can I apply for a loan?

A: hi

Q: We want to buy a Jetta for our daughter about to go off to college. NEW vs. USED???
My daughter has been driving for a few years now and is a very good driver. She handles herself well in town, Chicago toll roads, long trips on interstate, etc. We have no concerns with her driving her 3 younger siblings around. We are at a point where she really needs her own car. She works part time is able to help each month with the cost of a car and insurance (she can help with $150- $200 a month) We like the size, safety factors, and MPG ratings of the 07′ Volkswagon Jettas ($20,000). The Jettas seem to hold their value. We are torn between a new one for her (pts. being: lower interest rate, we know how car will be cared for from the start, full warranty, car will carry her thru college and first job) OR a used car with low mileage and a little warranty left on it (how do I know previous owner has taken care of car/is honest about it). The used Jettas that are 2 & 3 yrs. old still sell for at least $15,000.00 & have a higher interest rate. Help me think this thru, NEW/OLD?

A: Buy used, from an individual. Why should you pay the $5000.00 ++ hit as soon as you drive the Jetta off the lot?Have an independent mechanic check out the private owner’s car. There are some companies, like one I used once called Car Checkers of America, who make a business of examining used cars for people. Edmunds.com is very accurate as to the exact value of used vehicles. There are other appraisal systems, but Edmunds seems to be right-on every time I use it. Before you buy any car, new or used, always check out Consumer Reports’ reliability ratings on that exact year and model. It is an eye-opening experience. Some states (mine for example) do not charge sales tax on purchases between private individuals, so that may help sometoo.

Q: Am looking to buy a new used car.?
I live in the South side, south suburbs of Chicago, and about 8 Miles from the boarder of Indiana, near Gary. I am looking for a good driving car, with good gas mileage. 5yrs or older car, for under
$5,000.00. Any help would be appreciated. tsantis82004@yahoo.com. Thanks
new used car is a used car that is new to me. Its not rocket science.

A: How is it new and used at the same time?

Other than that, this site isn’t to advertise what cars you’re looking to buy.

Get online, which you already are, search for cars in your area, and buy one.

It’s not rocket science.

Q: I would like to address this to people that use I-go cars or Zip-Cars?
I live in Chicago and am without a car right now. I don’t do a lot of commuting but grocery day has been becoming increasingly difficult. I would like to know if anyone has used either one of these, what might be the pros and cons and which would they recommend? There really is only maybe 3 or 4 times a month that access to a car would really make things a lot easier. Thanks and please just focus on the question.

A: I have never heard of I-go cars, but we have Zipcars where I live. They are useful for short trips. Just make sure you reserve in advance because sometimes during peak demand times it’s hard to get a reservation for a nearby car and you may have to walk to another car that’s further away.

Q: What are the best places to live in Chicago as a 27 year old professional?
I am locating there for work in the Loop on Lasalle Street.
Where should I live if I dont want to use my car?
How much is reasonable for a nice one bedroon?
How much would I spend on utilities in the city?

A: I take it by your wording that you have a car that you don’t want to drive regularly. If that’s the case, you’ll want to live along the blue line -neighborhoods like Wicker Park/Bucktown, East/Ukrainian Village, or Logan Square. The neighborhoods close to the loop on the red line have substantially less parking. The further away from the loop you get, the less you’ll pay. Wicker Park/Bucktown is more trendy than Lincoln Park (which is more yuppy/frat jock) but really, it’s all kind of yuppy that close to the city.

Q: My friends and I want to buy a cheap stick car (Low hundereds) in North Chicago area any ideas?
baisclly my friends and I want a car to play around with something to have fun and do crazy stuff in it for the summer, also they want stick so they can learn since they bug me all the time to use my car I am interested in like a Honda Civic something that can drive and start in North Chicago area, will pay cash on the spot, if any ideas please post them, I would really apprecaite it

A: Hey Taha,

It is great to hear that you would like to get a new car! For me the newness doesn’t wear off for about a year or so. I would recommend that you check out http://www.cheapcarhunter.com You just might find a great car at a huge auction discount! Good luck to you!

Q: What used car should I buy?
Thinking about getting a second car for the family. Currently we share one car and have two kids. My wife stays home. I live in Chicago where it snows 50% of the year and rains the other 50% so I would really like a sporty fun to drive car that is AWD. We currently have a prius and as nice as it is it is not fun and it does not drive well in the snow. Here is what I was thinking about would love your input:

Subaru WRX
Audi TT (AWD version)
Audi A4

I like how fast the wrx is but sitting in it feels like a cavalier. No offence to whoever owns one, and I am leaning to the TT AWD

Thanks!

Kyle

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: What is the cheapest way to get from Chicago to Nags Head, NC? Leaving Tueseday – Returning June 1st.?
I have relatives in Roanoke, VA who would let us use their car. Are buses cheap? Are there any flight deals I don’t know about… please help!

A: Roanoke – Outer Banks is a long drive… I’d guess 5 hours, and with petrol (“gas”) nearing $4/gallon, this might not be cost-effective. I don’t know of any scheduled bus service to the Outer Banks.

Look at flights to ORF (Norfolk, VA, 1.5 hour drive), as well as PHF (Newport News, VA, 2 hour drive), RDU (~3hrs), and New Bern, NC (~1hr). http://www.bookingbuddy.com will help you find the cheapest flights.

You can cross-check all of those in one go with http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar — enter from CHI (which checks both O’hare and Midway) to ORF;PHF;RDU;EWN just like that, all caps, no spaces, and put in your dates. It will check them all in one go, but x-ref for better prices with Bookingbuddy once you’ve narrowed down which airport(s) you want. Flights to RDU might be cheaper, but if flights to New Bern aren’t much more, it might be worth it to save 2 hours each way, for example.

Q: Moving from Chicago IL to Phoenix AZ. How much will it cost?
I plan to move to Phoenix AZ from Chicago IL in a few months. I only have a big couch, my motorcycle and my 47″ LCD TV and my 21 year old car (don’t think my baby (89 Supra) will make the trip to AZ if I drove it there, it needs work.)

How much will it cost to rent a truck with that thing you use to pull a car with. Using U -hall or whichever
what about the millage on the truck? is that extra?

A: First off, completely ignore Tim, his rates are for local and probably just a guess anyway.

I used 8-18-2010 for my dates.
ALL PRICES DON’T INCLUDE TAX, EXTRA FEES, OR INSURANCE. Call your insurance company to see if they cover rental trucks. 10-16′ trucks Gross Vehicle Weight is 12,000 or less. 16′ and bigger is 25,999 or less.

Budget
From Phoenix to Chicago
inc. 7 days & 2103 miles
10′=870.30 16′=945.90 24′=1,181.70

U-haul
Includes up to 7 days of use and 2183 miles.
10′-901.00 14′= 940.00 17′=979.00 26′= 1,224.00

Penske

Q: Mercedes Benz 04 E320 or 06 ML350. PLEASE HELP ASAP!?
I am a 22yr old female, who stays in Chicago, and we have icy, snowy, winters. Here is the link to both cars, please help me decide:
1.) http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mercedes_benz-e_class-cars318320412;_ylt=Ahll8WoiPW461jFVpZC.MlwUW454;_ylv=3?individualowner=0&sortcol=price&sortdir=up&modelyearlb=2004&askpriceub=25000&askpricelb=any&deliverymileageub=75000&deliverymileagelb=any&location=Chicago%2C+IL+60649&listingtype=used&model=e_class&make=mercedes_benz&distance=100
2.) http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/mercedes_benz-m_class-pictures-cars319013304?individualowner=0&sortcol=price&sortdir=up&modelyearlb=2006&askpriceub=25000&askpricelb=any&deliverymileageub=75000&deliverymileagelb=any&location=Chicago%2C+IL+60649&listingtype=used&model=m_class&make=mercedes_benz&distance=100&fa=mys&es=1

A: If you’re concerned about winter traction, the E320 you’re looking at is not a 4Matic (Benz terminology for all-wheel drive). With a full set of proper winter tires, along with the electronic traction aids that come standard with the E-Class, it can still be a very good vehicle for the winter time.

The ML comes with the 4Matic system as standard so if you want that little bit of extra security, that may be the way to go for you. Just keep in mind that even though all 4 wheel can receive power, the traction is only as good as the tires you have on the vehicle. For best traction, you still need 4 winter tires.

Q: has anyone heard of DMV car rental in Chicago?
I saw a car drive past me this morning advertising their service of renting their cars and using them to take the driver’s test. Has anyone heard of this? I couldn’t quite catch the website on the car’s bumper

A: Erin R
Rent a vehicle to take the test is common practice.

Q: Which of these cars is best?
Scion tC
Honda Civic Si (2006+)
Chevy Cobalt SS

1. Which car is best performance wise (STOCK)?
2. Which car is going to be the easiest on gas?
3. Which car is the most reliable?
4. Which car will be least expensive to insure?
5. Which car will be the cheapest to purchase in Chicago (all will be used)?
6. Which car will be best to drive year round (Chicago winters/summers)?

I will be 18 or 19 when I buy the car and I have a good student/steer clear program that lowers my insurance a bit from State Farm if that helps to determine my future insurance costs.

Also, I don’t understand how the tC makes less horsepower then the SI when the tC’s engine is 2.4L and the SI’s is only 2.0. Could the tC be better tuned or something to get it to push more horsepower? Because if i buy any of these cars (most likely a SI or tC) I do not have 100000000 of dollars to drop into it. Looking for something that has good gas mileage and is fun to drive. Also something that is fast light to light

Thanks.
I am a die hard Honda fan but the Civic I have now disappoints (2002 Honda Civic EX Rallye Red). I was trying to go as far away as possible from the Cobalt because I used to have one (2006 SS non supercharged sunburst orange) and the gas wasnt as great as GM stated. The tC is the least expensive to buy NEW and it has a lot of features that appeal to the younger crowd standard. I just don’t understand why it is pushing 60 horses less then the SI when it has a bigger engine. I don’t want to supercharge my car (another reason im trying to stay away from the cobalt) because to me thats like cheating lol. The most i’d do to it is probably add an intake, a NON RICER magnaflow exhaust system and tint my windows. So is there a way to tune (dyno?) the tC to make it produce more horses?

A: The Scion tC answers all of your questions.

Q: Traffic Delays in Chicago I-90 Tomorrow? Any clue?
I have to get to Roosevelt Rd (driving west on Roosevelt) in downtown-ish Chicago tomorrow morning. I’m going to come up I-65 and get on I-90 all the way back in Indiana. I was planning on taking I-90 all the way and exiting on Roosevelt, but I saw this morning that there is going to be construction near there (it’s supposed to end right before the exit, but the website is trying to dissuade cars from using that area of 90 to get to it).

My question(s) are…how much extra time should I give myself to compensate for traffic on 90 if I take it all the way to Roosevelt?
Secondly, should I take 41 and go along the lake instead and turn onto Roosevelt there? And how long do you think that would take with traffic?

I will be coming through at around 7-7:30am (my appt is at 8:30).

A: How ever much time you leave yourself, leave more, this town has traffic problems like….always.

Q: I’m from Illinois and I bought a car from Texas, how and where would I get a temp plate to drive it back home?
I’m from Illinois and I bought a car from Texas, how and where would I get a temp plate to drive it back home? I could really use help on knowing the laws on buying cars out-of-state and how to legally drive it from Texas to Illinois. Thanks for any responses!

A: Robbie, I bought a used car in Idaho last month and saved some cash. Try visiting a few used car lots in Texas. http://www.findusedcardealer.com/Texas-Used-Car-Dealers.html

Q: What is the quickest way to get another copy of your car title in Illinois?
I had totalled my car in November and paid the fees for the towing company. They were going to wreck my car upon me sending them the title. I had sent the title, but theey did not receive it (my fault for not using certified mail). So now I just received a bill for 4025.00 from the towing company for the fees for my car. They’ll waive the fees as soon as they receive the title by March 17th. What is the quickest way for me to get this title? I live in Illinois.

A: You have to fill out an application for a duplicate title and send it to the secretary of state in springfield.

You can get the application at your local DMV

Q: Can I use my friend’s car for getting my Illinois driver’s license?
I just turned 18. My parents don’t want me to get a license, so I can’t ask them to come with me. I can’t afford to buy my own car and get insurance on it.
I just turned 18. My parents don’t want me to get a license, so I can’t ask them to come with me. I can’t afford to buy my own car and get insurance on it. Does my friend have to be a certain age?

A: In most states if the car is insured and in safe, clean condition, you can use it to take your driving test. Be sure to have your friend drive you to the examiner’s station, just in case they ask how you got the car there. When I got my motorcycle endorsement I was asked that very question. Luckily I had the test bike on a trailer. Good luck with your test.

Q: Does anyone know how 2 get 2 the Oak Brook Shopping Center in Illinois using only public transportation?
I am looking to get to and from the Oak Brook Shopping Center located at
100 Oakbrook Ctr, Oak Brook, IL‎. I do not have a car and I have heard that this is one of the best malls near Chicago. I am looking for a day of relaxation and fun without driving

A: Oak Brook is serviced by PACE buses. You can take METRA or CTA from your house but you will end up on a PACE bus.

Since you don’t mention a starting point, use the following RTA site for exact routes and fares. From the pull-down menu select Oakbrook Center as your destination. Opt out for the goroo.com option:

Q: i live in california and ive been searching online for used 2000 civic si and i noticed that in other states?
in like kansas and illinois the cars a hella cheap. I WANT TO KNOW WHY ITS SO CHEAP OUT THERE?

A: these are some reason i can think of..
1:the cost of living in California is rather high compared to Kansas and Illinois but Texas should be kinda close to our prices
2:Living in California, everyone needs a car, its kinda of hard to live a day without using a car, thats why prices on cars here are more expensive because dealers know we need cars Used or Brand New

Q: How can I get a donated car in Illinois?
I know a lot of people donate.
I know someone who could really use one and I would love to help him out

A: contact the Salvation Army, and also any mission for homeless and disadvantaged people. Try your local ones first.

Q: Is using he Illinois dyno free of charge?
I want to put my car on the dyno for the heck of it and see what shows up.

A: The equipment is so expensive, and preparation so technical, that I highly doubt it.

On the other hand:

1. perhaps businesses exist which sell this service to the public, or,

2. volunteers might be sought for a school project.

Q: bought a vehicle with illinois title… there is no place on the title for what i paid how do i pay the taxes?
im a new resident to illinois…. i recently bought a used vehicle and when i looked on the title there is no spot for the amount i paid for the vehicle…

what do i need to get my car registered and plated in illinois? is there no personal property tax i have to pay, and if so how can i pay the taxes if there is no proof on how much i paid for the car…

Thanks

Also i was not given a Bill of Sale the previous owner just handed over the title… i was not aware i needed one because i used to live in MO. and the price paid was on the MO titles… is this going to be a problem at the DMV???

A: The price should be on the bill of sale and taxes are figured on the value of the car by their book, not what you paid for it. Take the title, bill of sale, your insurance card and driver’s license and checkbook to get the tag.

Q: Can I drive out of state with temporary plates on my car. The car is properly registered and it’s insured?
Can I drive out of state with temporary plates on my car. I just bought a used car that only has the rear temporary plate and I need to travel from Illinois through Indiana, Tennesse, Kentucky and alabama. I have only had the car three weeks but the car is properly registered and I do have insurance. Is it legal I don’t want to break the law or get tickets.

A: Yes, temporary plates are the same as real plates in every state.

Q: How much money would gas cost to get to South Dakota from Aurora Illinois?
My friend is sayint it will be about a hundred dollars. It is 909 miles. We will be using a compact car I think.

A: If you are going to Rapid City (not sure don’t say) if gas was $3.15 a gallon car got 27 mph then yes about $105 one way.

Q: What are the requirements for an auto dealers license in Illinois?
I am looking to get an auto dealer’s license in Illinois. I have heard that you need to have a lot, is there any way around this? In the past I worked under a used car dealer as a salesperson and was able to go to dealer auctions and buy and sell just as if I was a dealer. I paid the dealer for each unit I sold. This would probably be the easiest way to go, but I can’t seem to find anyone willing to let me do that through them. Any ideas?

A: You can find a list of the requirements and links to the official state forms and pamphlets here: http://www.dmv.org/il-illinois/dealer-licensing.php

A: I live in Texas but I am sure laws are the same. You can use any car. What matters is that you have someone drive you there (since you don’t have a licence) and that you have proof of insurance on the car. This does NOT mean that YOU need insurance, but if its your friends car, you’ll just need to show them your friends insurance.

Q: Lemon Law/Manufacturer Buyback, I bought a used car, then found THAT on the title AFTER!!!!!!!?
Lemon Law Buyback??? I bought a used car….. found THAT on the title AFTERwards….?

I have checked ALL my paperwork, read EVERYTHING (literally) and there is NO where in MY paperwork that says anything about it previously having the lemon title…….

A: I certainly wouldn’t be asking this question on a website. Call a lawyer. Most lawyers won’t charge for asking such a simple question. They aren’t likely to take a case before knowing some simple facts. I usually call at least a couple before deciding what course of action to pursue. Get a few opinions from professionals, then hire one if need be. I used to work at a dealership, and you can expect to be given the run around if you take the car back to them.

As far as I know, what they have done is illegal. They probably pocketed the money to fix the problem, and then sold you the car. If you decide to handle this on your own, I would ask them for documentation that the problem was fixed and a written gaurantee that they will fix it if you have a future problem. Or, ask for a full refund and a different car.

The next time you purchase a car, insist that the dealer show you the CarFax vehicle history report. This includes a list of ALL previous reported title changes, insurance claims, etc, etc. It’s a great way to protect yourself from problems like this.

Q: I live in Illinois and I need to know how I can get my license plates transfer to another car since the car I?
I live in Illinois and I need to know how I can get my license plates transfer to another car sience the car I had the plates on got repo and I will be getting another car finance and want to use the orginal plated instead of paying for new ones.

A: you have to bring your i.d if and tittle that’s the amount way about 100

A: The 2003 model year was not a good year for Mercedes when it came to reliability and dependability. The electronics on the S-Class were the worst of the entire model lineup.

This has had a number of items replaced early in its service life that never should have been a problem, including the AC compressor, alternator, body computer, and ball joints. If the replacement parts were upgraded from the OEM to solve whatever issues made them fail so early you *might* be OK. The half dozen trips in for service in its first 2 years on the road don’t bode well either. The normal service interval is roughly every 13,000 miles.

I’d be passing on this one myself. If you had to pay for that body computer yourself, that would be close to 1/3 of the asking price of the car right now. That’s an item that cannot be replaced with a junk-yard replacement either as all of the computers are tied to the VIN at the factory.

A: Shopping malls often have specialty stores, like Spencer’s, that have itmes like this. You’ll have to do some detecting for this. Start with the phonebook. If you find a specialty gift shop in a mall, you can phone them and ask if they have such a thing.

Q: getting rid of a car for $$$?
old car, not really the for sale type w/ cosmetics and wear, is basically going out, my question is how would i be able to get rid of it for some compensation. I have heard of selling it to a junk yard(chicago land area), but i how much would that get on average? also i have heard of donating cars to charity, but I didn’t know if that meant nicer looking cars, as this is a semi-bad looking 1989 buick.
plus i heard its more a tax right off type thing.
any answers would be welcome.
thanks

A: If it runs half-way decent and the body is all rotted out, you can probally put it in a ad and get $300-$900 out of it.

Q: How do you feel about How Illegal Aliens Hurt America’s Senior Citizens?
Much has been written about the harm that illegal aliens cause to Americans, legal aliens, hospitals, governments, and others in the U.S. In this article, I will explain some of the ways in which the millions of illegal aliens in America hurt America’s senior citizens.

A large percentage of people in America’s prisons are illegal aliens. Illegal aliens who are wanted for crimes in other countries prefer to be in America where crime is more lucrative and prisons have nicer accommodations. Criminals prey upon the weak. In many cases, that means the young, the elderly, and the handicapped. Often, senior citizens are the targets of criminals who are illegal aliens.

One of the main ways that illegal aliens hurt senior citizens is through identity theft. Senior citizens live on their identity for retirement checks, social security funds, Medicare medical services, retirement funds, etc. Although everyone is at risk for identity theft, senior citizens are more exposed to the possibility of becoming victims.

Identity theft costs Americans billions of dollars per year. The presence of millions of illegal aliens in the U.S. is the chief engine that is driving the identity theft criminal activity.

Following are three paragraphs from an identity theft article in the August 2007 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine.

“In Utah and Houston, where many cases of Social Security ID theft are in the courts, prosecutors say that a majority of imposters are illegal immigrants. There are no national statistics.”

“‘Some immigrants cross the border, go to an ID mill, and say, “I need an SS card and this is the name I want on it,” explains Houston Assistant District Attorney John Brewer. ‘They get jobs, start working, and eventually—when they realize they’re not going to get caught—grow more comfortable with the number. Then they go the next step and sign up for a car loan or mortgage.’”

“And they usually get away with the crime because there are surprisingly few checks to stop this kind of theft, say prosecutors: Employers aren’t required by law to verify Social Security Numbers and some car salesmen and mortgage brokers are willing to overlook a fishy credit report in order to complete a sale.”

A news article which appeared on ABC7Chicago.com for July 11, 2005 stated, “An elderly woman on Chicago’s South Side may be the victim of identity theft and could lose her home because of it. Eighty-three-year-old Lillybella Peagram has lived in the 3500-block of West Van Buren for 45 years. Recently, she received notice from a bank that they will be foreclosing on her home due to an unpaid $150,000 loan taken out in 1990. Peagram says she never took out any loans. Her friends believe her identity was stolen.”

A woman in California who had not worked in years got a letter from the IRS demanding over $15,000 in back taxes from a job in Texas. She investigated and learned that her identity had been used at 81 jobs in 17 states from Florida to Washington State. Although it can not be proved, it is likely that her identity was used by illegal immigrants.

But, identity theft by illegal immigrants doesn’t just hurt senior citizens financially. It hurts senior citizens physically, too.

An insurance card or a Medicare ID number is like a credit card with a two million dollar credit limit.

A headline on the front page of the March 15, 2009 edition of the Chicago Tribune told readers, “In the U.S. illegally, Mariana de la Torre used a fake ID to get $530,000 worth of medical care. . . .”

When a fake ID is used to obtain medical care, the permanent medical record of the true person becomes POLLUTED with false information. This is very dangerous.

Imagine that your mother’s identity was stolen for medical services to an illegal alien. Then, imagine that your mother is in a car accident, that she is taken to a hospital, and her permanent medical records are polluted with false information because of ID theft by an illegal immigrant.

http://illegalaliennewsupdate.com/archives/9470

A: While it is said that most illegal aliens are law abiding, except for breaking immigration laws, working illegally, not paying income taxes …..it is also a fact that a significant percentage of illegal aliens have no respect for the rule of law and our legal customs. Many come with anti-American attitudes and philosophies that are totally alien to our culture.. The end result is an ever-growing lawlessness among large portions of the illegal alien communities. It only makes sense that illegal alien criminals come to the United States this is where the money is and our jails are a whole lot nicer than what they have in their home countries and our laws more lenient.( I keep looking for the shadows the poor illegal alien s are hiding in) I sure don’t see any hiding I see them marching, protesting demanding rights they have no right to,and rioting. No shadows!
Property crimes being committed by illegal aliens. However, like the activities of other equal opportunity criminals, many property crimes are drug related, an activity that many illegal aliens, especially illegal alien gangs, are involved in. While violent crimes against ones person are the most serious, if your identity or car is stolen by an illegal alien you won’t be too happy about it.

As a small example of property crimes, according to the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles, 85,600 cars were stolen in Phoenix alone. The owner losses are estimated to exceed $12.64 million. Most of the stolen cars ended up in Mexico and were never recovered. How many of those cars were stolen by illegal alien criminals versus resident criminals is unknown but you can rest assured that illegal aliens had a large part of it..Identity theft is rampant, seniors are robbed, there homes broken into and conned into giving out their social security card numbers, their Medicare cards, credit cards stolen. The illegal alien is the only one that profits from this type of theft.Criminals both legal citizens and illegal aliens steal, rent, borrow, counterfeit, trade for drugs, and supply ID to criminal illegal aliens. The older American may be incapacitated and unable to report or prosecute this action even if its detected early.
They purchase cars open charge accounts ,rent or buy homes all on the stolen ID.They are the scum of the earth.Where are the so called family values,or is that just for their family?

Q: Need help on algebra homework?
I’m almost done with my math homework. I just have these last 3 problems that I’m stuck on. Can you help me? Please show your work on how you got these. If you have time, can you answer the football/geography questions below? Thanks. Best answer will receive 10 points of course!

Math:
3) What is the slope of a line parallel to 2/3y – 8x = 3?
My answer for question 3 is 12. Is this correct?

7) Write an equation of a line that is parallel to the line -x + 4y = 20 and that contains no points in Quadrant II

A car wash charges $10 per wash and $14 per wash-and-wax. After a busy day, sales totaled $2856.

8a. Write an equation for the possible numbers of washes and wash-and-waxes that cold have been done.

8c. Is it possible that 210 car washes were done? Explain

8d. Find three possible combinations of washes and wash-and-waxes that could have been done. Explain how you found your answer.

Football/Geograhpy:
Here are the football games played on October 3rd, 2010:

NY Jets at Buffalo
Baltimore at Pittsburgh
Detroit at Green Bay
Charlotte (CAR) at New Orleans
Indianapolis at Jacksonville
Washington at Philadelphia
Chicago at NY Giants
Cincinnati at Cleveland
Denver at Nasville (TN)
San Francisco at Atlanta
Seattle at St. Louis
Houston at Oakland
Phoenix (AZ) at San Diego
Boston (N.E.) at Miami

6) Yosemite National Park was established on October 1, 1890. Identify the team that will fly over Yosemite en route to their game.
7) Over what city will the above team be when they cross the Mississippi River?

Name the states the 49ers will fly over going to the “Land of Tara”. (11 states)

Sorry, it does seem like a lot of work, Please at least answer the math problems, but if you have time, can you answer the football/geography questions, too?

A: 3) lets get it into slope – intercept form y = mx + b

2/3y – 8x = 3
2/3y = 8x + 3
2y = 24x + 9 (we multipled both sides by 3 to get rid of the fraction infront of y)
y = 12x + 4.5 (divide by 2 to get y by itself)
yes the slope is 12

7) again slope intercept this

-x + 4y = 20
4y = x + 20
y = 1/4x + 5  (so our slope is 1/4)

so we need a line with a slope of 1/4 (so its paralell) but also doesn’t go into Quad II (so we will make it have a negative Y intercept so it can’t go into Quad II

slope intercept form where m = slope and b = y intercept

y = 1/4x -7 will work

set up an equation where x = # of wash and y = # of wash + wax and z = total made
x + y = z

we know that our total (z) was 2856, and that wash (x) cost 10 and wash + wax (y) cost 14

so we have
10x + 14y = 2856

what you need to do is put this into slope form as there are mulitple answers, so where every the line hits on whole numbers for both x and y is a possible solution

14y  = -10x + 2856
y = -5/7x + 204

6) is Seattle, just based on Geography knowledge

7) St. Louis… but it might be a trick question as Seattle is the only team that will be flying over Yosimite and they might not even have to cross the Mississipi depending on what airport they land at.

California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Missouri, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia

Q: Paid 6,000 dollars for a car,and he told me i had to pay 7.5 percent sale tax.How much more will i be paying?
i live in chicago,ill

A: Approx. $450.

Q: What names do you like out of these? Do you like the main idea of the books?
They are for books- I’ll tell you the time era. Please no rude comments.
Oh, and do you like the main ideas of the books?

Rosalie McCar (yes I know- Twilight, but I don’t care) Time Era- 1910-1920
Long blonde hair and blue eyes. She is 5′4″; average height but seems more petite then she is. She comes from a large family; four sisters, five brothers. Her father is a car dealer and her mother is a seamstress. The family isn’t “short” on money, but they aren’t super wealthy. She is the love interest of Pierre Dupree, a French man who comes from Paris to New York to learn English and become an apprentice of a blacksmith. Pierre is 21, and Rosalie is 17.

Nick Dermon- Time era is 1950’s
Nick is a awkward, 16 year old boy with a dream of becoming a dancer. He meets fellow student Abby Welsh, and soon falls in love with her. Abby, the daughter of a rich man, finds herself falling for Nick as well, and her dream is to become a waitress and dancer. When Nick tries out for a dance competition and he makes it, he has one choice- to go to dance in Chicago and leave Abby, or to stay and let his dream fade.

Last one!

Livy Cotton- Time era is the present
Livy is a fourteen year old soccer player, caught up in the act of being a great midfielder. But when her family moves across the country to California, her dream of making State in Missouri with her team, the Lightning Bolts, her dream is demolished. But soon in California, she finds herself with even a better team, the California Sharks but they make her be goalie; a position she’s never played before. Between boys, soccer, and friends, her life is just beginning.

Thank you so much!

A: hmmm. i would be most interested in the first one because the other two just seem awful bubble gum sunshine preteen books

Q: No insurance in chicago Ill. what am i looking at with regards to fines?
Ok so i got pulled over yesterday and just found out today my dealer kinda screwed me over by not insuring my car when i was told i was insured! Ive been paying an extra 167 dollars a month to my dealer extra plus my car note and i was told it was for insurance through a company they deal with! now when i called them to get my insurance since i got pulled over and i didnt have proof of the insurance and now the dealer is saying it wasnt insurance but something to protect their investment since i didnt show them proof of insurance??? so basically they lied to me and ive been paying an extra 167 for nothing these past couple of months i just called another insurance company and now paying 100 dollars a month to be insured with them! NOW my question and problem is here i got the ticket yesterday the 20th of april and im now insured the 21st of april is this gonna hurt me in anyway since i wasnt techically insured the day i was pulled over??? if i bring paper work that i was paying to the dealer 167 dollars being told it was isurance? or am i just F#CK3D??? thanks

A: You can compare how the insurance quotes would change, for example here – autoinsurance.bebto.com

Q: questions about the smart car “pure”?(the cheapest one)Easy 10!!?
1.are the standard safety requirements in it(are there a lot of airbags)?and what else those it have extra to make it safe?

2.how many miles are on the warranty(i am 15 so is the warranty for miles good) and how many miles per gallon?

3.what is the top speed?

4.is it both electrical and gas?

5.how much is it to put a a/c and fm radio in it?i know its like 11,000 dollars or something like that.

6.is there a dealer ship in chicago?

7.is there a lot of space in the trunk of it?that can carry grocery bags and possibly a table or something?

plz no links..and thank u!!! to whoever helps me!!!!!!!!

A: Well the smart car is Petrol electric, has 6 air bags and the car is a safety shell designed to keep the passengers safe with the vehicle taking all the damage. At this stage its top speed is governed buy the petrol engine but rest assured it will do 70 mph.It does in excess of 70 mpg and it recharges its Battery using braking technology so you don’t need to plug it in. At speeds lower than 30 mph its on electric power. being a hybrid vehicle there isn’t much space in the trunk similar to a BMW 32.0d. The car comes with FM radio CD, MP3 player and Air con as standard.

Q: Can I back out from a signed car buyer’s order?
We are trying to buy a new car and signed the buyer’s order, which I am going to give to the bank that I am going to finance the payment. However, now, after cool down from the moment, we decided that car may not be the best fit and the price we agreed with the dealer may not be the best. Since I have sent the document to the bank to issue the check, can I still back out of the transaction without any legal attachment? I am in Chicago. And, I haven’t take possession of the car. They buyer’s order is the Only document that we signed with price of the new car and the trade in. Thanks
I make a mistake in my question. I have not sent the buyer’s order to the lender yet. Does that help me?

A: You may have an out IF you contact your lender and tell them you do not want the vehicle. If they do not finance the deal, there is no deal.

Also, there is no “3-day cooling-off” period in vehicle sales. Not for vehicles purchased at a dealer or ones purchased privately. Only CA has this policy, and you have to purchase that right to do so at point-of-sale.

**EDIT — Usually, the dealer sends the buyer’s order to the lender. You probably just have a copy. I would be on the phone tomorrow morning (early, or go in person) to the finance office at the dealer and make sure they haven’t done so yet, so that you can back out.

Q: Car Repair Advice?
In Nov I had the catalytic converters replaced on my 98 Buick. The service engine light came on in Feb. I took it to the dealer. They said the converters need to be replaced (no prob, I have the warranty for them). They also said that the Fuel Pressure Regulator and the Lower Intake are leaking. The FPR would cost $264 to fix, and the intake would be $1,150. They charge $150/hour just for labor, and say the lower intake will take 6 hours.

Is this a bunch of BS? How soon do I need to get this stuff fixed? The local place I’ve had stuff done before doesn’t do that kind of stuff, so I don’t know how much it would be at a mechanic that isn’t the dealer. Any ideas on what parts and labor should be? (I’m in Chicago)

Thanks very much in advance.

A: First thing, stop going to a dealer, their parts are INSANE on prices, and you can get parts that are just as good or better at most part stores. $150 an hour for labor is crazy, I mean just absolutly crazy. Forget that nonsense about how a dealership is familiar with ONLY GM vehicles and they are therefore better. A good mechanic is just as familiar with your vehicle as a dealership, in some cases, alot more expirenced. Bear in mind I said a GOOD mechanic, be careful where you take your vehicle, before handing your vehicle over to a shop, look for ASE certification, and ask around to see who has had any good/bad expirences with that shop. Also check www.bbb.org to look for a list of shops with complaints against them in your area.
I, as well, would suggest minimal time dely on having the repairs checked out, but do not hand the vehicle over to a shop and ask them to do the work, tell them what the dealership has told you, and ask them to check it for themselfs. Most shops will charge a diagnosis fee of about $50, and this fee is usually waved if you have the work done there.
Good Luck with that, and like i said, stop using the dealership, its alot of wasted money for exactly what you could get at a good mechaninc elesewhere.

Q: Can some help?
I bought a car in 02/05 in chicago with a 40 per cent loan from a credit unioun. They agreed with a dealer the he was going to post the title of the car to them. Ipaid the credit unioun for registering my vehichle which they never did. In 07/05 I recieved a statement from the bank with a $1000.00 in my account, I went to them to find out why, They told me that the dealer didn’t send the title so they couldn’t register the vehicle. They asked me for my paper work from the dealer wihich I gave to them. Recieving the next bank statement the $1000.00 was taken off my account which made me feel that everything is been taken care of. Now the liscense plate given to me by the credit unioun can not be renewed. The car has been packed since 02 this year. And now they are calling saying that their anthony adviced them to return the $1000.00 and take thier liscense plate. What can we do in this case? Get a lawyer? And weare paying them every month even more that the supposed amount.

A: You will be money ahead to hire a lawyer to look into this. Sounds like the dealer has bailed out because he NEVER had the title to your car. This could be a real mess and the services of a lawyer will be needed to research and find the original title.

Q: 1996 20k Chrysler NYorker trans problem?
So my husband finds a 95 Chrysler New Yorker in Pittsburg that he buys from a dealer. This is a posh car with all the fun gadgets that a guy or gal could possible desire including climate control, leather seats, trip computer yada yada. His interest was peaked by the fine condition of the body, interior, a great price and 22k original miles. I know what you’re thinking, not with transmission problems baby! Well we did the CarFax, saw all the dealer records looked this beauty over with a fine tooth comb and it looked and drove great.
He drove it to Milwaukee, through Chicago then back to Bloomington Indiana where we live. In southern Illinois it started running a little rough at slower speeds after a refill so he thought he got a bad tank of gas and took it in to get a tune-up when he got home.
Next day the transmission fails suddenly when the car gets hot! We’ll be driving along after 5 to 10 miles and all the forward gears just stop engaging. The reverse still works, thank goodness, so we can get out of traffic but nothing going forward. If we let it cool for an hour it drives like a dream until bang nothing.

Now here’s the really weird part, when this happens we always find a little puddle of green radiator fluid under the front of the car. We took it to the Chrysler dealer in town and they repaired a trans. line and said all fixed. Nope! Happened again. Now they want to replace a valve for another 600 on top of the 3 something already spent for fixing drip.
So it’s back to the dealer but my husband and I are disagreeing about this, I think it’s something electrical, wire, pump, fuse, pressure/heat thing that’s not allowing coolant to circulate in the transmission cooler. He seems confidant with taking it to assorted people and letting them replace mechanical items. The latest theory is a clogged filter in the transmission from sediment in the pan (Precision Transmission), my opinion is “that’s malarkey!” not with 20k!

Aggravated in Indiana

A: There is no valve which stop trans fluid flowing to the cooler or trans. I suspect the dealer wants to replace the valve body in the trans. At 22k this is a car which has been sitting for a long time so the valves which make the trans shift may be getting stuck when the trans fluid get up to operating temperature. They should change the trans fluid and filter, plus flush the trans and torque converter. The will allow the trans to have totally new fluid. Good luck, you still probably got a good buy.

Q: Does anyone else get tired of the ignorance of people that live in the suburbs?
My family pulled me away from Chicago and into the Chicago suburbs when I was in middle school. We moved into a small old house that was surrounded by all these huge homes that had 2 and 3 car garages that were the size of our home. I was constantly made fun of because I was not able to wear the abercrombie and fitch clothing and other brands such as this. And the fact that my family had to shop and buy the cheaper brands of cereals and what not. By the time I graduated High school I was so fed up that I went to a school near St. Louis. There I met a lot of decent people. I made several friends that were from the East St. Louis area. Nicest people that I have ever known. Well I just graduated from college and invited them up to a party by me. The few friends that I had in high school were petrified of this guys (mainly I think because they were big and black) Then my mom gets a phone call asking if she knew her son was hanging around black drug dealers and gangsters from East
St. Louis. Now what would give this women the impression that my friends were drug dealers and gangsters? They were overly polite to these A@@holes and they just could not get over the fact that my friends were black and not rich. Then some of my high school class mates started asking me questions like if I have ever seen them jump or stab anybody before and a bunch of ignorant questions like these. Then they were like why are you hanging around these N’s for when you have us? I replied because they are my real friends and they dont laugh when I cant afford a 35,000$ car. And I basically told them all to piss off I know who my true friends are.

Yes I know I am generalizing about everyone from the suburbs being ignorant but most of the people that I have run into while living here have matched the stero type perfectly. Anyone else see the same thing?

A: sorry, i’ve lived in the DC suburbs and its nowhere near the same experience b/c not everyone there is rich and it’s very diverse racially. but sorry that you’ve met such crappy people.

Q: 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee clutch fan not running?
The car only starts to get hot after being in idle a long time and i took it to the dealer and they wanted to charge me 65$ for a diagnostic check of it which anytime i have ever gone somewhere in Chicago they never charge for.. They said its not the relay because no power is going to the fan… what else could it be

Also im going to be driving home this coming weekend if the fan isn’t running but im driving down the interstate it should keep the engine cool enough during the drive with the natural airflow alone right?? the only time its ever gotten hot was after being parked for 6-7 min in a drive through..

THanks
Quick addition.. Im going to be pulling a uhall trailer behind my car will that make more of a difference..???

A: Driving down the interstate youll be fine, but if you have to putt around low speed surface streets at low speeds or if you end up idling for a long bit of time, I’d strongly suggest getting it fixed, it sounds like it very well could be the fan clutch, although these grand cherokees (both the 6 and 8 cylinder models) are equipped with a fan clutch and also an electronic fan. Either one can cause an overheating at idle.
What the fan clutch does is it couples that big fan and the crankshaft together, each end has its own bearing, but inside it is a series of temperature sensitive plates, and as those plates heat up, they push against eachother one by one, causing the fan to move faster and faster as it gets warmer. An easy way to check this, is when the car is warm, turn it off, and try to spin the fan. If it spins freely, its bad, if it gives you a good amount of resistance, chances are its doin its job.

Im confused on why they said “its not the relay because no power is going to the fan.” The relay takes a low amperage circuit (like the one on the fan switch) and switches on the power of a large amperage circuit (like the fan) without crossing the wires and blowing fuses. So if there is no power to the fans, it very well could be the relay, but it could also be the fan switch. it could be a bad wire even.

I would say to check the fan clutch, and if it spins freely, go back to that dealership, tell them you want the fan clutch replaced, if they tell you they need to do the diagnosis and want to charge you for it, tell them you want to just have that fan clutch replaced, and you will take the risk of it not fixing the problem (since you know what the problem is)

If the fan is good though, get the diagnosis done, checking the electronics of a fan circuit is not so easy.

Q: jaguar x-type tune up cost?
Hi! Tomorrow I gonna get a 2003 Jaguar X-Type with 89k miles the car looks very well and clean but I’m looking to know the cost of maintenance for this car such as complete tune up and some extra maintenance.
I can get the complete tune up kit for $85

1 OIL FILTER -Mann- XR8 17215
1 AIR FILTER- OP PARTS -12826-002TA
1 FUEL FILTER- Mann -C2S-020906PT
6 Spark Plugs Regular Resistor- Denso

I live in Chicago if you know a dealer o mechanic with a good price

Thanks!!!

A: Um…that’s nowhere near a complete tune up/fluid change kit…doesn’t even include the 35 bucks in synthetic oil you’re going to need.

Just an fyi for the future (because you’ve obviously bought this car already). If you bring your own parts mechanics both 1)charge you more for labor and 2)don’t warrant their work. Potentially fatal when it comes to Jaguars and Range Rovers (especially the 2nd one). In chicago I’d assume at least 2 hours of labor probably booked at 3 which will be around 250-300 bucks for labor and it won’t even be a full fluid refresh. No mention of replacing coolant, no mention of replacing transmission fluid, no mention of replacing brake fluid…

Q: Where can I get the most money for my junk car in Chicago?
I’m looking to get rid of a 1990 Volvo 240 junk car. Where can I get the most money for it in Chicago? It’s still drivable.
Edit: when I say drivable, I mean it’ll make it to the salvage yard…maybe.

A: Your best bet would be to donate it to charity and get a tax write-off.

Q: Indiana resident buy car insurance in Chicago?
I go to college in Indiana and hold an Indiana license. I’m working in Chicago this summer and thinking about buying an affordable used car here since there are way more options in the city. I’ll go back to Indiana in the fall and would like to register the car as an Indiana one. Since I can’t drive the car without an insurance, I wonder if I can buy insurance here in Chicago and still register it as an Indiana car? Thanks a lot.

A: I recommend you this site where you can compare quotes so you can find the best option for you

http://afforddinsurance.notlong.com

Q: Where is a good place to get after market parts put on a car in Chicago?
I want to know the name of a good/reasonable priced shop in or near Chicago. I want to have aftermarket parts installed on my Acura TL such as head lights, tail lights, body kits, spoilers, custom interior upgrades and performance accessories.

A: J.C. Whitney ,
summit 1800 230 3030 call this too free number and get free catalog.

Q: I want to rent a car from Chicago to LA. Is there a cheap way to do this without encountering a drop off fee?
All the car rental websites I have looked at have a “drop off” fee of at least $800. Thanks.

A: Try several car rental agencies; some of them have -mostly NE US-Florida- specials to get their cars to specific locations to accommodate seasonal demands.

Q: Is a car necessary for Chicago?
I am planning on going on a 3 or 4 day trip to Chicago with my wife. We will probably be staying in or near downtown Chicago. I want to go to some museums, the aquarium, the zoo, Millenium Park, Chinatown, etc.. All the touristy places. Will getting a rental car be necessary? Or will public transportation or taxis be enough?

A: no public trans wil take you almost anywhere you need to go

Q: What is the cheapest day fo the week to rent a car? …In chicago?
Does the hour I pick up and drop off the car make a difference as long as it’s only one day? Like would it be cheaper to pick the car up at 9am and drop it off by 9am next day, than to pick it up at noon, and drop it off by noon the next day?

Any advice for getting a good price?

A: Try asking this to the U.S.A Questions & Answers, you may get a larger response?

Or go ask at a Airport hiring company for advise or prices?

Q: What do you think of i-Go Car Sharing service in Chicago?
Hi guys! I’ll be moving to Chicago next week (Lincoln Park area). I won’t be having a car but I’ve recently learned about i-Go car sharing service. What do you think of this car sharing service? Thank you!

A: I live in the city and I own a car but only because i commute to the suburbs for work. If it weren’t for that I could take public transit, bike or walk anywhere else I need to go. I would probably sign up for this if i did not have a car just because it is nice to have a car to drive to the grocery store or other various trips you may need to make. It is cheaper in the long run as you don’t need to pay for parking, a city sticker, registration, insurance or car notes, just the monthly and usage fees. I know a few people who have I-Go and they have had no complaints.

Q: What is the cheapest way to ship a car from Chicago, IL to Sacramento, CA?
Thanks
Cut it out with the dumb answers please. I need to ship this car and no I cannot drive it, and please check the dictionary for the meaning of the verb “to ship”.
I’m interested in a recommendation of a good, reputable and cheap company that does this.

A: Auto van. It depends on the value if you ship it open or closed van. If it’s an exotic it should be in a closed va

Go to an exotic car web site and ask the same question. They ship cars across the country all the time. There are big name national services, but they are very expensive. You want a private operator who charges about half.

Q: Anyone know of a air carrier that will fly my car from Honolulu to Chicago?
We only have one vechicle, I would like to have it flown so I dont have the expense of renting a car (either here or there) until mine shows up. I have searched and searched and cant seem to find a carrier that will fly a car via air cargo. I see plenty that will ship one but again I dont want to be without a car and have to rent one. I’d like a site that lets me get an estimate since I need to budget for this. I’m looking into it way in advance. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Oh I wont have enough vacation time to have it flown to CA then drive it to Chicago myself, which is why I need a carrier that will get it all the way to IL.

A: I don’t mean to be rude, but are you out of your mind? Let’s say that your car is a toyota echo, just for argument sake, and that the shipping wieght is around 2,000 lbs. Now, go to the ups or fed ex website and see how much they would charge to ship a package wieghing 2,000 lbs. OVERNIGHT to Chicago? Pretty expensive, now figure in the Hazardous material charge (gas in the fuel tank and such) and it is HUGE. I am not sure about the $25,000 quoted in the other post, but I would not be suprised.

Q: I need a car for two months. What is the cheapest way to get a temporary car in Chicago?
It just needs to be cheap. I don’t need anything extra ordinary just work and back.

A: rent one or buy a “beater”

Q: Is it neccesary to have a car in Chicago?
I will be going there for 3-4 months, but am not used to driving!

Is public transport OK there?

A: I lived there for only 6 months and having a car was more of a burden. The cost of parking garages or meter passes can be pretty steep. You will definitly love not having to put up with traffic when you take a bus or subway. The layout of the city is perfect for public transportation!!!! Unless you live in the subburbs outside of the city…then get a car. Be a little more cautious on the Red Line, nothing bad ever happened to me, it just is a little sketchy in some places. A month metro pass will cost about 60-70 bucks if I remember right, they can be found underground at any subway station, or Jewel Grocery store. The cost of keeping our car in the garage (Which we were on a six month waiting list for!!!!!) Cost $120 a space. We lived in Sandburg Village between Gold Coast and Old Town. I am sure the prices vary place to place. Bu the long way around it here was YES INDEED! the public transportation is OK……much better than in here in L.A!!!!!!!……….sigh….I miss reading The Red Eye on the morning commute to work on the bus.

Q: What is the safest way to ship my car from Chicago to San Francisco?

A: Use a bonded company and if you really want the safest, find one that will use a covered rack for the cars. I’ve shipped my car between Chicago and Phoenix several times without problem.

Q: Looking for a place to sleep in my car in chicago?
Could be a street parking garage anywhere. Only going for 2 nights and dont want to rent a hotel, im low on money.

A: If I were you I’d email them and ask if you can sleep in your car. I personally wouldn’t do it for 2 reasons:

1. Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. There are thousands of cars in and out of those garages every day, especially during an event weekend (I’m guessing you’ll be at Lollapalooza this weekend?)

and

2. Security. At night when there aren’t that many people around I would be afraid that someone one would break into my car with me in it. Or if I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and got mugged, raped, abducted or worse.

You might want to call or email Millennium Garages (who owns the Grant Park garages) and ask if they allow you to sleep in your car.

Q: Job interview with enterprise rent a car in chicago?
I have a interview with enterprise rent a car and she stated for me to bring a resume and come dress in a suit. I don’t have a suit but I do have professional clothing. Do you think this will affect my chances in getting the job? I am a woman by the way

A: I guess that you don’t want the job. Beg, borrow, or steal a suit. If you can’t follow that easy direction, you will have trouble working for enterprise. They run a tight ship, and really want highly motivated people. The word NO does not exist in their vocabulary. Even if your place doesn’t have a car left on the lot, you tell the person that you have the car they want. You call every enterprise in 100 mile radius till you find one, then figure out how to get it to your place. Be dressed properly, and be gung ho. You’ll get the job. Good Luck!

Q: How much would shipping cost for a car to Chicago, Illinois to Hawaii?
For a vehicle.

A: Contact Matson and Horizon Lines for an exact quote. You could have googled “shipping car to Hawaii” and come up with this information. Getting a quote directly from the company is free, it does not commit you to using the company.

http://www.matson.com/pov/index.htm?gclid=CIjO3cvdnaICFRYBiQod612Dxw

http://www.horizonautoservices.com/

From the west coast of the U.S. expect to hear a quote of anywhere from $1200-$1500+ depending on how much insurance you decide to carry. From the east coast $2200 or so depending on insurance. I’d venture that you’ll fall somewhere in the middle since that is where you are literally from.
