Q: My husband has found a man’s class ring from Chicago State U. How do I find this person? Where can I send it?
It’s from 1984. My husband found it in a used car 15- 20 years ago.
A: Contact the Alumni Office at the school. Explain the situation. Hopefully, they can find out whose ring it is. If there are initials in the ring, be sure to tell them. It should be a simple case of looking in a yearbook or checking school records. I know the person who lost the ring will be glad to have it back!
Q: best used car in 10000 US dollars ?
am ready to buy a car which is used for about 2 years. which is the beat choice i am planning to live in CHICAGO and i luv to show off !!!
A: 10K is not going to buy you a car to show much, specially since you’re looking for a car that’s only two years old but with that budget you can get a car like a 07-08 Dodge Caliber 07-08 PT Cruiser or maybe an 08-09 Ford Focus or cars on the category.
Q: Need loan to get a used car??

Q: We want to buy a Jetta for our daughter about to go off to college. NEW vs. USED???
My daughter has been driving for a few years now and is a very good driver. She handles herself well in town, Chicago toll roads, long trips on interstate, etc. We have no concerns with her driving her 3 younger siblings around. We are at a point where she really needs her own car. She works part time is able to help each month with the cost of a car and insurance (she can help with $150- $200 a month) We like the size, safety factors, and MPG ratings of the 07′ Volkswagon Jettas ($20,000). The Jettas seem to hold their value. We are torn between a new one for her (pts. being: lower interest rate, we know how car will be cared for from the start, full warranty, car will carry her thru college and first job) OR a used car with low mileage and a little warranty left on it (how do I know previous owner has taken care of car/is honest about it). The used Jettas that are 2 & 3 yrs. old still sell for at least $15,000.00 & have a higher interest rate. Help me think this thru, NEW/OLD?
A: Buy used, from an individual. Why should you pay the $5000.00 ++ hit as soon as you drive the Jetta off the lot?Have an independent mechanic check out the private owner’s car. There are some companies, like one I used once called Car Checkers of America, who make a business of examining used cars for people. Edmunds.com is very accurate as to the exact value of used vehicles. There are other appraisal systems, but Edmunds seems to be right-on every time I use it. Before you buy any car, new or used, always check out Consumer Reports’ reliability ratings on that exact year and model. It is an eye-opening experience. Some states (mine for example) do not charge sales tax on purchases between private individuals, so that may help sometoo.
Q: Am looking to buy a new used car.?
I live in the South side, south suburbs of Chicago, and about 8 Miles from the boarder of Indiana, near Gary. I am looking for a good driving car, with good gas mileage. 5yrs or older car, for under
$5,000.00. Any help would be appreciated. tsantis82004@yahoo.com. Thanks
new used car is a used car that is new to me. Its not rocket science.
A: How is it new and used at the same time?
Other than that, this site isn’t to advertise what cars you’re looking to buy.
Get online, which you already are, search for cars in your area, and buy one.
It’s not rocket science.
Q: I would like to address this to people that use I-go cars or Zip-Cars?
I live in Chicago and am without a car right now. I don’t do a lot of commuting but grocery day has been becoming increasingly difficult. I would like to know if anyone has used either one of these, what might be the pros and cons and which would they recommend? There really is only maybe 3 or 4 times a month that access to a car would really make things a lot easier. Thanks and please just focus on the question.
A: I have never heard of I-go cars, but we have Zipcars where I live. They are useful for short trips. Just make sure you reserve in advance because sometimes during peak demand times it’s hard to get a reservation for a nearby car and you may have to walk to another car that’s further away.
Q: What are the best places to live in Chicago as a 27 year old professional?
I am locating there for work in the Loop on Lasalle Street.
Where should I live if I dont want to use my car?
How much is reasonable for a nice one bedroon?
How much would I spend on utilities in the city?
A: I take it by your wording that you have a car that you don’t want to drive regularly. If that’s the case, you’ll want to live along the blue line -neighborhoods like Wicker Park/Bucktown, East/Ukrainian Village, or Logan Square. The neighborhoods close to the loop on the red line have substantially less parking. The further away from the loop you get, the less you’ll pay. Wicker Park/Bucktown is more trendy than Lincoln Park (which is more yuppy/frat jock) but really, it’s all kind of yuppy that close to the city.
Q: My friends and I want to buy a cheap stick car (Low hundereds) in North Chicago area any ideas?
baisclly my friends and I want a car to play around with something to have fun and do crazy stuff in it for the summer, also they want stick so they can learn since they bug me all the time to use my car I am interested in like a Honda Civic something that can drive and start in North Chicago area, will pay cash on the spot, if any ideas please post them, I would really apprecaite it
A: Hey Taha,
It is great to hear that you would like to get a new car! For me the newness doesn’t wear off for about a year or so. I would recommend that you check out http://www.cheapcarhunter.com You just might find a great car at a huge auction discount! Good luck to you!
Q: What used car should I buy?
Thinking about getting a second car for the family. Currently we share one car and have two kids. My wife stays home. I live in Chicago where it snows 50% of the year and rains the other 50% so I would really like a sporty fun to drive car that is AWD. We currently have a prius and as nice as it is it is not fun and it does not drive well in the snow. Here is what I was thinking about would love your input:
Subaru WRX
Audi TT (AWD version)
Audi A4
I like how fast the wrx is but sitting in it feels like a cavalier. No offence to whoever owns one, and I am leaning to the TT AWD
Thanks!
Kyle
A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net
Q: What is the cheapest way to get from Chicago to Nags Head, NC? Leaving Tueseday – Returning June 1st.?
I have relatives in Roanoke, VA who would let us use their car. Are buses cheap? Are there any flight deals I don’t know about… please help!
A: Roanoke – Outer Banks is a long drive… I’d guess 5 hours, and with petrol (“gas”) nearing $4/gallon, this might not be cost-effective. I don’t know of any scheduled bus service to the Outer Banks.
Look at flights to ORF (Norfolk, VA, 1.5 hour drive), as well as PHF (Newport News, VA, 2 hour drive), RDU (~3hrs), and New Bern, NC (~1hr). http://www.bookingbuddy.com will help you find the cheapest flights.
You can cross-check all of those in one go with http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/prego/calendar — enter from CHI (which checks both O’hare and Midway) to ORF;PHF;RDU;EWN just like that, all caps, no spaces, and put in your dates. It will check them all in one go, but x-ref for better prices with Bookingbuddy once you’ve narrowed down which airport(s) you want. Flights to RDU might be cheaper, but if flights to New Bern aren’t much more, it might be worth it to save 2 hours each way, for example.
Q: Moving from Chicago IL to Phoenix AZ. How much will it cost?
I plan to move to Phoenix AZ from Chicago IL in a few months. I only have a big couch, my motorcycle and my 47″ LCD TV and my 21 year old car (don’t think my baby (89 Supra) will make the trip to AZ if I drove it there, it needs work.)
How much will it cost to rent a truck with that thing you use to pull a car with. Using U -hall or whichever
what about the millage on the truck? is that extra?
A: First off, completely ignore Tim, his rates are for local and probably just a guess anyway.
I used 8-18-2010 for my dates.
ALL PRICES DON’T INCLUDE TAX, EXTRA FEES, OR INSURANCE. Call your insurance company to see if they cover rental trucks. 10-16′ trucks Gross Vehicle Weight is 12,000 or less. 16′ and bigger is 25,999 or less.

Q: Mercedes Benz 04 E320 or 06 ML350. PLEASE HELP ASAP!?
I am a 22yr old female, who stays in Chicago, and we have icy, snowy, winters. Here is the link to both cars, please help me decide:

A: If you’re concerned about winter traction, the E320 you’re looking at is not a 4Matic (Benz terminology for all-wheel drive). With a full set of proper winter tires, along with the electronic traction aids that come standard with the E-Class, it can still be a very good vehicle for the winter time.
The ML comes with the 4Matic system as standard so if you want that little bit of extra security, that may be the way to go for you. Just keep in mind that even though all 4 wheel can receive power, the traction is only as good as the tires you have on the vehicle. For best traction, you still need 4 winter tires.

Q: Which of these cars is best?
Scion tC
Honda Civic Si (2006+)
Chevy Cobalt SS
1. Which car is best performance wise (STOCK)?
2. Which car is going to be the easiest on gas?
3. Which car is the most reliable?
4. Which car will be least expensive to insure?
5. Which car will be the cheapest to purchase in Chicago (all will be used)?
6. Which car will be best to drive year round (Chicago winters/summers)?
I will be 18 or 19 when I buy the car and I have a good student/steer clear program that lowers my insurance a bit from State Farm if that helps to determine my future insurance costs.
Also, I don’t understand how the tC makes less horsepower then the SI when the tC’s engine is 2.4L and the SI’s is only 2.0. Could the tC be better tuned or something to get it to push more horsepower? Because if i buy any of these cars (most likely a SI or tC) I do not have 100000000 of dollars to drop into it. Looking for something that has good gas mileage and is fun to drive. Also something that is fast light to light
Thanks.
I am a die hard Honda fan but the Civic I have now disappoints (2002 Honda Civic EX Rallye Red). I was trying to go as far away as possible from the Cobalt because I used to have one (2006 SS non supercharged sunburst orange) and the gas wasnt as great as GM stated. The tC is the least expensive to buy NEW and it has a lot of features that appeal to the younger crowd standard. I just don’t understand why it is pushing 60 horses less then the SI when it has a bigger engine. I don’t want to supercharge my car (another reason im trying to stay away from the cobalt) because to me thats like cheating lol. The most i’d do to it is probably add an intake, a NON RICER magnaflow exhaust system and tint my windows. So is there a way to tune (dyno?) the tC to make it produce more horses?
A: The Scion tC answers all of your questions.
Q: Traffic Delays in Chicago I-90 Tomorrow? Any clue?
I have to get to Roosevelt Rd (driving west on Roosevelt) in downtown-ish Chicago tomorrow morning. I’m going to come up I-65 and get on I-90 all the way back in Indiana. I was planning on taking I-90 all the way and exiting on Roosevelt, but I saw this morning that there is going to be construction near there (it’s supposed to end right before the exit, but the website is trying to dissuade cars from using that area of 90 to get to it).
My question(s) are…how much extra time should I give myself to compensate for traffic on 90 if I take it all the way to Roosevelt?
Secondly, should I take 41 and go along the lake instead and turn onto Roosevelt there? And how long do you think that would take with traffic?
I will be coming through at around 7-7:30am (my appt is at 8:30).
A: How ever much time you leave yourself, leave more, this town has traffic problems like….always.
